Builders Guidelines
At Victory Church, we believe that whom the Son has set free is free indeed! The men and women who serve on our ministry teams are a living testimony of the victory God continues to work in our lives. We are being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ, and we are intentional about how we live our lives to represent Him and draw others to Him. Each Builder should demonstrate the following characteristics and practices.
Christian Community
“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!” - Psalm 122:1
It is important to gather together regularly with believers. This happens during Sunday services and throughout the week as we come together in Victory Groups, serve with ministry teams, and meet with friends and families. As Builders, we are committed to regular church attendance, serving on ministry teams, and staying connected with our Victory Church community.
Ministry Service
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” - Romans 12:4-5
We are not saved by our works, but we demonstrate our salvation and our faith by our actions. Each of us has unique gifts that work together to produce God’s vision for a people reconciled to Himself and each other in Charlottesville, VA. As Builders, we are committed to serving the body of Christ with excellence and integrity. We respect and honor others with our words and actions, submit to the authority of those in leadership, communicate clearly and in a timely manner, and provide grace-filled spaces for correction and growth.
Lifestyle Standards
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22-23
In Christ, we have died to sin and are now alive in Christ Jesus. We resist the devil and the fruit of the flesh: sexual immorality, impurity, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. (Galatians 5:19-21) As Builders, we are committed to honoring the Lord with our bodies, minds, and words. We daily choose to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and not be conformed to this world. We actively practice the spiritual disciplines of Bible reading and study, prayer, worship, fasting, service, tithing, and gathering in Christian community.
Corrective Discipline
“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” - Hebrews 12:6-8, 11
Those who engage in activities or maintain a lifestyle in opposition to the above guidelines will be asked to meet with a ministry leader for corrective discipline, and may be asked to no longer serve on a ministry team. We recognize that we all fall short, and we will demonstrate, deliver, disciple, and deploy each other to lives of freedom in Christ Jesus.
I have read and understand the guidelines to serve and/or lead a ministry at Victory Church, and I agree to abide by them.
